    Can We Do It Now?

    Or Do We Need Years More Study?

    Come hear about a long-term approach to eliminating flood risk from San Francisquito Creek and why we can take the first steps now

    Please join us on Thursday, 4/10, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. to hear potential short-term solutions to San Francisquito Creek flood problems. The meeting, co-sponsored by the Duveneck/St. Francis and Crescent Park neighborhood associations, will be held at the Palo Alto Art Center, 1313 Newell Road.

    A group of Crescent Park and Duveneck/St. Francis residents have found a way to make progress toward reducing the creek's threat. With their technical expertise, they have explored a way to prioritize the use of the federal funding for a short-term CAP 205, and a possible longer-term GI project. The meeting will feature:

    1. The history of the San Francisquito Creek,
    2. Computer models of water flow in the creek,
    3. The effect of the bridges between El Camino Real and Highway 101, and
    4. A flood control approach and potential projects for discussion and consideration.
    The residents' group working on the analysis includes:
    • Stephen Monismith, Stanford Professor of Civil Engineering and head of the Environmental Fluid Mechanics Laboratory;
    • Tom Rindfleisch, a physicist and Stanford research computer scientist retired after 30 years in the Departments of Computer Science and Medicine;
    • Steve Bisset, formerly Co-Founder and CEO of Megatest Corp. and currently VP, Operations at Acuitus, Inc., who holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology;
    • Art Kraemer, who holds undergraduate and advanced degrees in Electrical Engineering from Cornell and Stanford, respectively;
    • Xenia Hammer, who holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Yale University and an M.B.A from Stanford; and
    • Stan Smith, B.S. & M.S. Electrical Engineering, University of California at Berkeley and M.B.A. Stanford Graduate School of Business.
    Our January meeting left residents with many questions. Our April 10 meeting will offer potential answers!

    This will also be an opportunity to express our appreciation of the extraordinary effort of these neighborhood volunteers.

    We look forward to seeing you all.

    Glenna Violette and Mary Carey Schaefer,
    Crescent Park Neighborhood Association

    Karen White,

    Will sirens work? Who needs special help in evacuating, if there's flooding? How can we organize our neighborhood for effective emergency response?

    Please join us for an important meeting to learn about flood-related neighborhood preparedness and flood control issues as we enter the rainy season in this, an El Nino year.

    Jointly sponsored by the Duveneck/St. Francis and Crescent Park neighborhood associations, the meeting will include presentations by City of Palo Alto emergency services personnel and Cynthia D'Agosta, Executive Director, San Francisquito Creek JPA. Santa Clara Valley Water District representatives have also been invited to present. But the focus of the meeting will be neighborhood residents' interests, concerns and questions about flood-related emergency preparedness and separately, creek-related flood control.

    WHEN AND WHERE?
    Date: Wednesday, January 15, 2003
    Time: 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
    Place: Duveneck Elementary School - Multipurpose Room, 705 Alester

    We hope all DSFNA and CPNA residents will join us for this important, informative evening
    .
