You may have received or are still receiving strange e-mails from the
'city council', from city staff members, and from people all over Palo
Alto. There is no message, but there are various titles, e.g. "Language"
or no title at all. I've gotten four so far.
Citycouncilman Bern Beecham has graciously looked into this problem that
is mushrooming all over town. He checked with the city's computer
experts and found out that:
![]()
"It looks as though this is the KLEZ virus.. The KLEZ virus is known for spoofing the sender. Someone who is infected with Klez has the Council email address in their address book. The virus, in this case, has taken an address (city_council) from the infected PC's address book and placed it in the From field. There is nothing we can do to correct this. [note: on the city level]"

He added:
"On another note, we haven't been sending external emails with the old
address since last fall; however, we are still able to receive email
sent to both the old and the new addresses at this time."
